Expert: Public Health; Humanitarian Health; Evaluation; Outbreak response and Health systems

Bio: Will is a senior public health and humanitarian expert with over 24 years of experience in the humanitarian health sector including health policy, programming, evaluation, and research work. He started working for Médecins Sans Frontières in Sudan in 1997 and continued working in a large variety of contexts in Africa and Asia. He has in-depth knowledge of the operational complexities in middle- and low-income countries and the ability to analyze and articulate the humanitarian dimension of complex issues emanating from a coordinated response. He has a solid knowledge on institutional mandates, policies and guidelines related to humanitarian action, and knowledge of the UN system and donors, the current cross-cutting thematics, and non-traditional local CSO/ NGOs. He has focused on emergencies and conflict settings and undertaken organizational research in security management.

He is a generalist in public health topics, with a special interest in disaster and outbreak response & preparedness, neglected tropical diseases, antibiotic resistance, WASH/IPC and health system strengthening, epidemiology & surveillance. At program, national and global level he strategized, coordinated and evaluated disaster and response including Public Health Emergencies (Ebola, Measles, Meningitis, Malaria, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Cholera, Yellow Fever, Diphtheria, Dengue, Hep E, Hep C, COVID-19 …). In addition, he has country, regional and global operational experience in Conflict, Fragile and Refugee settings and managed disaster response programs for malnutrition, rapid onset natural disasters (flood, earthquake, tsunami) and national programs addressing Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) such as Human African Trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), onchocerciasis (river blindness) and Visceral Leishmaniasis (Kala Azar).
